Statement of Faith
What we believe
We know and believe that the Catholic Church was established by Jesus Christ and teaches the fullness of Christian truth. The Catholic Church bases her teaching upon one source: The Word of God. This divine revelation is transmitted in two ways: through Sacred Scripture and through Apostolic Tradition. Many assume that only apostolic writings are the word of God. However, according to Scripture, their oral transmission is also considered the word of God (e.g., 1 Thess 2:13, 2 Tim. 2:2, and 1 Peter 1:25).
Furthermore, Sacred Scripture warns the individual to avoid "private interpretation" (2 Peter 1:20-21) because it may lead to his "own destruction" (2 Peter 3:15-17). For it is not our personal interpretation of the bible that leads to truth (Proverbs 3:5-6), but the Holy Spirit guiding the Church (John 16:13), the "pillar and foundation of truth" (1 Timothy 3:15), who then reveals it to the world (Ephesians 3:10).
We acknowledge that the Catholic Church, with the Pope at its head, is the infallible teaching authority of that truth through the Magisterium, which relies on both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.
